Where do the Swiss go on holiday?

Just generally speaking of course.. You know how the brits go to spain/greece/turkey on package holidays booked really cheaply in travel agents..and get drunk and sun burned.

So where do the swiss / expats go and how do you book it?

Just wondering like.

Many Swiss love Thailand. And after the tsunami, it is really great for people to go there and help there economy back. Really they need our help.

Anywhere totally exotic - the more outlandish the better, especially if the nextdoor neighbours have been there before you. Latest is Bhutan.

Alot of Swiss drive... Italy and Spain.

If you book a villa in Spain for example Euro 1000 for 2 weeks will get you a decent 3 + bed one with pool.. it takes 12 hrs to drive to drive to the Costa Blanca /Brava areas....

The French coast is 4hrs drive away....

Corsica is also a well used option, 4hrs drive to Genoa and a Ferry to Corsica

Croatia I know people drive to... via a ferry from Venice.... prob 24hrs from here.

Cheap holiday flights to Sicily, Malta, Turkey, Greece etc etc ..

Middle of Europe here ... its your Oyster... take full advantage of it.

It's funny to see expats figuring out what we Swiss do on holiday Laughing.

First you must be born in a small country to understand us because there is this equation:

The smaller the territory you were born in, the bigger the craving to discover new horizons.

Fact is we travel everyhere to the 5 continents and to the 4 cardinal points although some countries are indeed well appreciated by us, given the vicinity like France, Italy, Spain, etc.

Personally I dream of discovering central Asia as it is not mainstream mass tourism and seems to reserve its travellers some true emotions.

I dont know what the Swiss do , but in the 5 years we have been here I have flown to a few places in Eastern Europe. We have driven to Croatia for a yachting holiday , we have driven to and explored 3/4 of Italy , driven to and stayed on the East coast and the south of France...  we went to Thailand for something a little bit exotic ... but perhaps most importantly we have explored most of the major tourist areas of Switzlerand itself which is well worth doing
