If you like soul and jazz and general funky stuff try Madame Jo Jo's for a night out - It's the one thing I want to try if/when I return to the UK.

I you do go let me know what it was like - Keb Darge on a Saturday night should be fantastic, but Friday night looks great as well - Snowboy! (superb Latin/Acid Jazz musician and DJ)

Cheers

Try and go at a touristy Thames cruise. The guys doing the sight seeing narration had me crying with laughter

Hi Sandy

Try smoothhound for B&B's ... can't personally igve you a recommendation for a charming one at a reasonable price. We are talking London & tastes vary and of course for you one major consideration is 'location' ...

there is so much to see that you don't want to spend time cross London from the B&B to your training location and back.

http://www.smoothhound.co.uk/

Sightseeing

you should provide more clues about YOUR particular interests ... there is just too much to list and a tourist guide wil do a better job.

But if you like history, then you can 'live' (for a few minutes) where the Romans did. even most Londdoners don't know about this very recent brilliant discovery:

Historians and archeologists always knew that the Romans were present in London and that where ever they went, they built amphitheatres (stadium for their barbaric sports) ...

but they couldn't find one in London. Indeed the name London comes from the Roman name for it: Londinium

But eventually they found it and have partly excavted it! It is right under the Guildhall.

Entrance is free and there is also an art gallery on the ground and first floor.

Standing in the amphitheatre, you will get a sense of these killing arenas and how insiginificant we all are with respect to time and in the face of history.

It can be a humbling experience that reminds you to enjoy your precious days and be good to others.

Another wonderful place is the Natural History Museum - see the Earth Gallery, the Dinos & much more:

Enjoy

for B&B's, use booking.com and have an idea of what area you'd like to stay in. i've found they always give much cheaper rates than going to the hotel directly.

one final suggestion for a night out: The roof gardens in kensington. its a club on top of a building in kensington and when the weather is nice can be quite a cool experience! good luck :)

What part of London is your course taking place?

Do you have an ideal budget for your accommodation?

What sort of things interest you and how much spare time will you have?

London is vast and there are so many things you could do depending on what interests you.

If you give me an idea of location, budget, interests and time available I would be happy to give you some tips.

Well I would look for somewhere within a 10/15 minute walk of a tube station. To be honest your best bet with accommodation in London is to visit Tripadvisor.com. You get fairly honest opinions of peoples stays and you can search by accommodation type, budget, location.

In terms of what you can do, well the opportunities are almost limitless. A river cruise is a nice idea if the weather is nice. The architecture along the river is lovely. Sometimes I like to cross the river to the southbank somewhere hear Waterloo, the National Theatre and walk east towards Tower Bridge. It's a lovely atmosphere and you will pass some nice buildings, Tate Modern, the Globe Theatre and Tower Bridge is fantastic.

There are so many museums you can visit in London and most of them are free. The National Gallery, The National portrait, The British Museum, The Natural History Museum....... These four alone could keep you entertained for days and there are so many more.

Then there are the department stores, Harrods, Selfridges, Fortnums, John Lewis, House of Fraser, Libertys (a particularly lovely building)...... again you could easily lose a day visiting these and we haven't even got onto the normal shops yet.

ChinaTown in Soho is always fun and bustling in the evening and is full of Chinese Restaurants. Covent Garden is busy and a bit touristy but it has some nice shops and a good atmosphere.

There are loads of theatres showing musicals and high quality theatre.

In terms of eating out, well you can go to a chain restaurant like Ask or Pizza Express and get a decent pizza for less than £15 or you could go to a top restaurant and pay somewhere between £100-£200. There must be thousands of restaurants in London but Trip Advisor also has restaurant reviews which you could check out.

This is just a small selection of things you could do in London.

Quite general suggestions I know but London is so big and offers so much that it's difficult to know where to start. Hope this is of some help to you.

Hi

I haven't ever stayed in the Notting Hill area of London. I usually stay around Canary Wharf or very central so can't advise on staying there. Its a popular area and it has the Portobello market which is supposed to be one of the best in London. Its also fairly close to Holland park and Hyde park if you fancy some greenery.

Make sure you check out B & B's on trip advisor before you book. Good B & B's in the UK are excellent but bad ones can be awful. Maybe also check out some of the cheaper hotel chains like Ibis, Holiday Inn express, Travel lodge, Days inn, Etap.... They can be a bit boring but usually offer good clean facilities and reasonable rates on the weekend.

If you have limited time then I would advise staying somewhere that doesn't have too complicated a tube journey into the centre or your airport. Just in case they are doing lots of maintenance.

Oh and I also forgot to suggest for you to try and fit in a trip on the London Eye. It's very popular and you get great views of the London skyline.
