Consider:
Discount airline (www.flybaboo.com or through ebookers specials on Glocals), from GVA to Florence (FLR), then a rental car or train. Bologna is about 75 kilometers from Florence. Last time I flew from GVA to FLR, it was little over an hour. Including airport check in, baggage claim, transfers, train/car ride - total may be 4+ hours if there are no flight delays etc.
Train (www.sbb.ch), from Geneve to Milano on Cisalpino and then express train to Bologna Centrale, about 6 to 7 hours.
Ciao.
