week-end "en amoureux"? where to go?

Hi,

we would like to discover th rest of swizerland,

and have a nice week-end in a romantic bed and breakfast or hotel (not too expensive).

Do you have any suggestions? (we arrived in Geneva 6  months ago and don't know so well where to go to!!)

What is "not too expensive" anyway?

On this forum, it could mean anything...

I haven't been there "en amoureux", but the hotel is nice and they offer a "romantic weekend package": http://www.hotelmisani.ch/index.php?id=122&info=detail&uid=522&L=1

OK, so a thousand bucks for two isn't that cheap anymore, but what's money among lovers, right?

;-)

Hi Lili, I can highly recommend hotel "Pilatus" on the top of Mt.Pilatus. We just came back from romantic getaway there, and if you need silience, mountains and sky around you-that's place is for you! As soon as cablecar stops working (from 16-15 till 9-00) you are in absolute isolation almost in the sky:) Last Saturday there were 3 couples in 38-room hotel! All details you can check here http://www.pilatus.ch/ The trip is easy and the cost of 1 night stay with round trip tickets from Kriens to Pilatus (cablecar), dinner, welcome drink and breakfast is 165 CHF per person. We met the sunrise alone on the top!

O, and on you can rent for free sledges and on your way back go to the down station on 6 km sledge run!

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

hi - these are some of the best thermal baths in French speaking Switzerland - I would put them above Yverdon and on par with Leukerbad (incidentally the latter is in the German part) - the advantage here is that you can rent rooms on site and that the prices are reasonable (in my opinion) but it's very popular and easily accesible only by car - by train it will take you almost 2h if not more from geneva - and part of that will be by bus :(

if you don't mind the trek it's a great place with killer views from the water, steam all around you from the melting snow, and even some skiing on site if you're interested!

I agree with Rainer, not so easy to answer without any price range. I might have some suggestions, but most are prolly in the 200-250 chf/night , maybe a bit above what you expected to spend (but I guess we've a few other readers there). So, after over 10 years of looking for great spots, top 3 is....

- Le grand chalet, in Gstaadt. Here it's a bit tricky however, as the place is a 4 star in gstaadt, with a restaurant like 16 or 17 in gault and miliau. However, good news, if you bought a smartbox (the one for 1 night + 1 restaurant for 2), it'll cost you 300chf (breakfast included, with a stunning view). The smartbox cost 300chf, and the room alone would be more than this.

- Grand Hotel Giessbach. I think it's closed in winter, but when the nice days come back, it's one lovely place to be. You're a bit above Brienz Lake (the clearer one from switzerland), with some waterfalls, and a private train to get there. Food is delicious too, 2 restaurants, none are cheap however (but the most expensive is really really worth it). Room is around 240 chf it i remember correctly.

- Ok, not in Switzerland, but actually closer than most places. Aoste is a lovely little city after the Mont-Blanc, in Italy. You can spend a great afternoon there doing shopping and having coffees on some nice places, and I would recommand Hotel Milleluci, just a few minutes outside. Rooms are from 140euros, but the one at 190 euros is very, very romantic, with a four-poster bed. I think it was cheaper when I get there, so maybe they changed many things, or maybe you can find a good deal on the net to go there (I just looked briefly at their website)

Regarding thermal bads, I've never been ovronnax, but rank Leukerbad way above Yverdon for the bath. Yverdon's old city is nice However.

And for the Mont Pilatus area, you can also stay next to the lake Luzern at SeeHotel Pilatus (it's in Hergiswil), resting a bit there before go eating in Luzern. One good place to eat there is the Old Swiss House (or something like that), where you can have an amazing schnitzel (a bit expensive at around 54, but really try that place).
