Moving just outside Zurich...

Hi everyone,

I am moving to Switzerland in a couple of months, and delighted that I have found this website, its great.

I am hoping that some of you may be able to point me in the right direction on a couple of things.

Firstly, my partner will be working in Dubendorf, and I was wondering is it a nice place to live? I am hoping to work in Zurich, and don't want to spend too much of my day travelling. Any suggestions would be very welcome, as this is all very new to us. We are coming over in a couple of weeks to check out places to live and houses....

Secondly, I need a job I am looking for an English speaking job, and have 11 years experience in Telecommunications, and managing a team of 10 people...I have applied to lots of places, but still looking for advice...

Any info is much appreciated...

Hi Hazel,

I'm currently living in Dubendorf and it's actually ok here. Rents are much lower than Zurich city and if you guys find an apartment close to the train station, then you only have 7 minutes to Zurich city center. Please don't hesitate to send me a message if you have other questions.

Yes, it is much easier to rent in Dubendorf than Zurich. Have a look at www.homegate.ch, which is the best place to find a rental property.

No worries. I can also mention, that if you want to find an apartment in the City, it can take more than 2-3 months to find one. The rental market in Zurich is just amazing. Let me know, if you need more information/support. And good luck to both of you.

Thank you for your help. We dont want to live in the city, and we were looking outside of Dubendorf at the start, but we need to be close to a train, that is why we were thinking of Dubendorf.

Hopefully we will get a nice place

look around areas like bassersdorf, dietikon, gockhausen and kloten, all pretty easy in terms of reaching the city, and Duebendorf. homegate is your best bet, or even try www.ronorp.net. its in german for the best houssing options, or english for slightly less options. Also try to join yahho groups for ex pats in zurich. Ask your company to help with agencies as well. If you use an agent it will cost you, but in the long run it can save you time and hastle. Good luck hunting.
