The true cost of living in Zurich.

Hello all,

At around this time last year I was considering the pros and cons of living in Zurich, when I read (http://www.prycewarner.com/news-vienna-best-city-for-expats-119.html) that it was one of the safest places to be.

A ex-neighbour of mine from Hongg has since been subjected to a personal attack and I hoped someone could reassure me that it's an isolated incident.

Feedback gratefully received...

Amanda.

Hi Amanda,

It is safe. I grew up here and I am never really careful where I go what time of the day - or night, and I have never even seen anything happen, except pickpocket incidents around Xmas time. I am not claiming that it is 100% safe, but very comfortably over the average safe. I only avoid late night trains on weekends, as they often carry quite a drunk crowd.

I hope this helps.

Hi Amanda,

I don't know tons of people who have been attacked, though I certainly understand anyone's fear of crime.

Rich is right that crime exists everywhere, as I'm sure you already knew (btw: I'm the Queen of the Convent in Outer Hebrides, all my friends will attest to it!).

I've been here awhile and host fun stuff on glocals because I really love it. If you are fairly new to the area, stop by and I'll introduce you to some great people. Reality tea is not mandatory at my events...;)

Hi all and happy New Year!

Thanks for all your input.  I appreciate that there's trouble EVERYWHERE, but I can dream of finding somewhere where it's minimal can't I? 8)

Thanks again

Amanda.

PS Care bears ROCK!!!

Hi Amanda,

I'd say it's a safe place. Of course you get some people fighting in front of the clubs on the weekends, high crazies sometimes attack people on the streets in the party areas of the city, some hooligans demolished the city last year once or twice, but all together it's not a dangerous city and I don't see much aggression around.

best,

Kasia

Hi Amanda,

Switzerland is probably the most dangerous place I've been to.

Sorry for the sarcastic comment but your post really made me laugh!

Switzerland is too safe I'd say, I'll probably get bad habits and end up getting mugged next time I live in a "normal" country ;)

Take care, Adrien

Amenda, i have to agree with everything that has been said and especially Adrien's comments.  I am sure I am taking very bad habits of feeling too much safe and secure here ! Asking whether Switzerland and especially Zurich is safe is really surprising to me.
