I deleted some comments that were in bad taste.

Folks, I'll keep repeating this until it's understood:

If the comment you're about to post has no bearing on the thread, and has no purpose other than showing how witty you are by insutling someone else, please don't post it.

I could only come up with top 2:

1) Esperanza_72

2) TheScotsman

Have not attended much else, so cannot rate other organizers.

I vote for the Scotsman! Not only because he organizes the event but he is also a very good host who makes sure that even those who come on their own are well "integrated" in the crowd.

Cheers

TheScotsman

Organizez every week. He is really good at making people feel welcome. It takes a huge amount of energy to do what he does, and he does it every week. The activity is on Saturday, the main going out day of the week (for me at least).

iiro keitaanranta's nomination has some great points. It left me think deeper about the impact Glocals people had on me, and it is only fair I redo my previous nomination. My new nomination is very much as iiro keitaanranta's but happens to be in reverse order:

1) Filippo Bur - there is so much goodness in you! I thank God every morning (and at night too) for meeting you!
2) Esperanza_72 - for all the enthusiasm, energy, and great ideas that bring people together
3) TheScotsman - for helping me become a piece of furniture in Toto Saturday nights
4) Ehsaan - for posing a challenge before me - find a Hallowing costume in Zurich
5) Michael F - I used to feel so lonely on Tuesdays and Thursdays! You inspired me to want to learn German... Now it even sounds more beautiful than Italian!

Michael - thanks for the warm reply and for extending an attendance invite to someone like me that does not have a basic German knowledge. After reading your reply, I feel I should nominate you at the top (just above Filippo), but I am afraid people will get tired of keeping track of my nomination versions;)

Can't wait to listen to your German!

Hellow folks

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ehsaan for this great idea of Oscars! Thank you Ehsaan! I believe that the best organisers should get O-recognition for their hard work and dedicaton to the community.

And here my nominations (excluding Ehsaah as part of Admin crew), based on the activities I attended:

1)     Esperanza / John – The Best Organiser, for the variety and number of activities organised

2)     The Scotsman – The Best Host, for hosting the Saturday’s Toto’s drinks, while introducing each guest and making him/her feel welcome and special

Good luck all!

Valya

Post 21

Dear Oded, dear Ehsaan, dear members of the Zurich Latin Culture, Music & Dance Lovers Group, dear posters on the glocals ZH - Oscar awards 2010 forum thread, dear glocals members

I guess most of you received on Saturday morning the message from Esperanza_72 where she was complaining about the way the "glocals award" poll have been run and then attacking Ehsaan; and I guess most of you are aware her profile have been removed shortly after from the web site.

I want to say something about this story: my opinion is that Esperanza is raising a very good issue in a very bad way (this I already wrote to her directly).

Ehsaan, the way the poll was run can be described just as ridiculous: gathering preferences through posts on a forum; even elections of class presidents in primary schools are run better. And then you declare that the results are "based on people voting on the forums and also people who wrote directly to me" ... what about votes expressed through Skype, MSN, facebook, SMS or direct phone calls?

But the real issue is: who are you Ehsaan? What gives you the right to declare the "glocals awards"? Are you the owner of the glocals.com domain name? Are you putting money in the web site? Why activities posted by you are often "highlighted"? Why in the days before the party whenever I was connecting to the site a full screen banner advertising the "Halloween Party with 1600 expected guests" (1600 ! ! ! ... was the party venue really so big?) was appearing? Why a member who were organizing an "alternative Halloween party" (Dancoise K) was removed few weeks ago? Do you have admin right on the web site, and if that's the case how extended are them? Can you remove a user profile? Can you read private messages sent through glocals? What about passwords? Are you abusing of your rights? ... or are you just a normal member like me and everybody else (this is what I read on your profile) who gathered the biggest bunch of friends being one of the most active members?

Oded, your removal of Esperanza_72 profile is perfectly reasonable, she violated the terms of use and have been removed, but we are not talking about a guy that registered to the web site two days ago and immediately started sending "increase your pleasure tool" messages to the whole community; we are talking about a member who registered long time ago, was very active, was having a lot of friends, was running many groups and was appreciated by many people (see below from the glocals ZH - Oscar awards 2010 thread) and even won one of the "awards":

Ehsaan - Oct 4, 10 23:06: Esperanza_72 - for the hikes
Denitsa L Oct 5, 10 14:08: Number 1- Esperanza_72
Piotr Wieczorek Oct 5, 10 21:49: I vote for Esperanza_72 - she puts a lot of efforts into organizing events. Thank YOU
Alexandre Neu Oct 6, 10 14:02: Esperanza_72 - for the hikes/restaurants/good humour
Michael F Oct 6, 10 20:31: Esperanza and you put the biggest efforts in glocals.
Juliana S Oct 8, 10 16:46: My top candidate is also Esperanza, since Ehsaan is part of the admin crew.
Petya Petrova Oct 14, 10 13:19: 1) Esperanza_72
adela muresan Oct 21, 10 23:57: 2.esperanza - I never attended to any of her events but I know she organises lots of different activities, where pple always have fun and enjoy
Michael F Oct 22, 10 00:07: 1 Esperanza_72 - for all she makes, so many and different things
Montse Q Oct 25, 10 13:01: 2. Esperanza_72, for being a walking culture guide and coming up with always interesting events.
iiro keitaanranta Oct 25, 10 21:11: 4.  Esperanza_72 - for organizing so many interesting events.
Petya Petrova Oct 25, 10 22:53: 2) Esperanza_72 - for all the enthusiasm, energy, and great ideas that bring people together
Valya Oct 27, 10 12:56 1)     Esperanza / John – The Best Organiser, for the variety and number of activities organised
Ehsaan Oct 30, 10 11:02: We have 3 winners. ... 2) Esperanza with 34 votes

Esperanza clearly made a mistake in sending that message, but my opinion and my request to her and Ehsaan is to try to solve their personal conflicts offline and it this is not possible to avoid to comment on each other activities, and even to name each other; to Esperanza to publicly apologize in the forum with all the members and with Ehsaan for having brought online their private conflicts and to avoid bringing them online in the future; and to you Oded, in the interest of the community, to restore Esperanza's profile with the warning that it will be removed for good whenever another violation of the terms of use will be done.

From my side I'm currently administrator of the "Zurich Latin Culture, Music & Dance Lovers group"; this is not my group, but it's Esperanza's group, then I'm going to rename the group "support the restoring of Esperanza_72 profile" and to post a corresponding activity, to remove all the members and to ask to all the people that were members (and to non members too) to register to show their support to Esperanza and to this request.

I believe that this is not violating any term of use of the web site; if this is not the case I'm really sorry and I apologize in advance for that. I'm publicly commenting on one activity in the proper forum thread, I'm sending a message about the founder of the group to the group members, I'm posting an activity and I'm just rising direct and clear but polite and not insulting issues about the way the site is run, as I believe that they are of public interest, then I really hope to have public answers and not to just have my own profile, the group and the activity removed after the sending of this message; if that would be the case I'd say that many of the questions above would automatically get a clear answer, and everybody could take their own conclusions.

Cheers

Fabrizio

iiro keitaanranta Oct 25, 10 21:11: 4.

Cheers

Fabrizio

Hi Fabrizio and thanks for your feedback.

I think you raise some good points, and I’ll try to explain our thinking below.

The Zurich Oscars Vote
I agree that Esperanza raised a good point in a bad way.
We handled the Zurich Oscar votes badly, we’re sorry about it, and we won’t make that mistake again.  Next time there’s something that requires a vote, it will be done in a clear and transparent manner.

Who is Ehssan
Ehsaan is a regular member who agreed to be our 'man on the ground' in Zurich.  He's been voluntarily organizing the glocals activities in Zurich from day 1, we know him and trust him, and we give him all the support we can, including banners, mailings and highlights.  He is the glocals representative in Zurich and he organizes all the OFFICIAL glocals events/activities, but I assure you that he can't read your mails, see your passwords or anything similar (no one can – including us) and he can't delete members.

The removal of Esperanza
I can’t really get into the details of why we removed Esperanza due to privacy issues, but I can tell you that we don’t remove people, especially people who organize a ton of activities, manage several groups, and have a lot of friends, unless we think there is no other choice.  Again, without getting into the specifics, some very harsh words and accusations were publically posted, and despite several efforts from our side, we saw that the only way to stop this is by removing the offending member.

Restoring Esperanza
I’d love to restore Esperanza, and If Esperanza wants to come back she just needs to speak with me so we can agree on how to handle what happened, and on some basic guidelines of what can and can’t be posted on glocals.

'Restore Esperanza' Groups and 'Restore Esperanza' Activities
As I said above, I’d love to restore Esperanza if she wants to be restored, and if she and I can come to some agreements, so I don’t see the need for ‘Restore Esperanza’ groups or ‘Restore Esperaza’ activities.  If, despite the above, you feel the need to show your support, feel free to do it in the forums, but groups or activities need to remain focused on what they are for.

Some thoughts from the admins
Managing/monitoring a community isn’t always easy.  There are always decisions to be made, and each decision will usually make some people happy, while making others angry.
If any of you ever wake up one day to see that someone posted a bunch of insults and accusations about you online, I think you’ll be very happy to know that we’re here, and we’ll do whatever needs to be done to ensure that the offending content is removed, and the poster is dealt with.  Being part of a community comes with some responsibilities, and one of the main ones is to keep personal conflicts personal.

Thanks a lot, and have a great week.

i've posted this already, but i've been told, that i have to move my comments here.

hi fabrizio thanks for putting up this matter. i agree, that peronal things should be solved on a personal level and not publicly. but i also understand, that this thing (a profile being removed) not only happened to esperanza but also to other people. an to add something personal, there was also something strange going on with the invitations/e-mails/requests before the salsa workshop for beginners started. just want to mention something in general dear glocals-member: please be friendly with eachother - 'cause that's the key. and if somebody doesn't like you, it's not the end of the world, 'cause we are different!

i posted my comments before this thread started, and have been asked by oded to repost them here so the thread doesnt get lost. This was my post.

I thought id start this discussion after giving it much thought over the weekend.

Personally i dont think Esperanza should have been banned, she has been doing a lot of work organising events on here, and i know a lot of people appreciated her efforts. Her mail that was sent out, i presume to everyone , was a little out of line. That said however it did not warrant a banning, and removal from Glocals. Whatever the background of personal disputes, they should not be discussed openly on the forum., If you have something to say to someone, then by all means say it personally. If however you have an opinion on activities or events posted on here, then im sure you are open to critique, which you then have to answer to.

I also organise the occasional event, on glocals and if people dont like whats happening , or what i do then they have a right of recourse on here, and dont have to attend again. I dont take it personally , you cant please all of the people all of the time. So whats your opinion, are you in support of Esperanza or not , whats your opinion ?

Have never been to Esperza's events but did see she organized a lot. The big question is 'does she want to come back' ? It is one thing to say she has a lot of support and she will be allowed back but she has to answer the big question herself. It depends on the person. What kind of self esteem will you have if you come back ? Etc etc. These are the questions only Esperza can answer. Not any of the posters. I am not hinting at any answers here but just questions which only the person can answer.

Oded, your removal of Esperanza_72 profile is perfectly reasonable, she violated the terms of use and have been removed, Esperanza clearly made a mistake in sending that message.....

So what are the terms of use ? And even more importantly, what are the terms under which that person is allowed to come back, if he or she has violated the terms of use ? Enlighten please thanks.

I usually refrain from writing on the forums, but this thread is quite amusing.

I saw what Esperanza wrote on the forums (site admin deleted that) and I am assuming she sent out the same thing to many folks in Zurich.

It was quite rude and out of line what she wrote.

The funniest thing I saw on this thread was that Esperanza nominated herself as number 1 for the oscars and when she did not get it, she went crazy and started insulting "people"

I think the whole point of glocals and organizing activites is to go out there and meet people and have fun.

There is no competition in having fun!

No matter who was first and who was second, it was one of OUR community members who got the award!

But how she reacted was as if it was a matter of life and death. Did she organize for fun or fame? Is this some kind of a power game?

Now the question is: Did she deserve this? I think yes! She violated the rules and regulations of glocals.

There are certain rules that we have in a community and society. If you violate these, then the law will be after you.

Something similar happened to her as well.

Will she come back?
Maybe yes, maybe no!

I think siteadmin should accept her, but she should also apologize on the forums for what she did.

Nobody knows what happened behind the scene. We all are just guessing.

My 2 cents. That is all what I have.

Peace,
Al

Wow,

I have just read the thread. I must say, I feel very sad for this kind of situations.

I have never been in an activity organized by Esperanza or Ehsaan, I was only involved on  a group of Esperanza (Jazz lovers). But I would not say anything new if I say that both members are appreciated by lots of people in our community.

I completelly agree with Ally_Thomas in "there is no competition on having fun", and it should be always so.

How the poll was "organized" was absolutely wrong... But not only that: I find the idea of  "Oscar Awards for the best organizers" a clumsy idea. And the result was the following: an appreciated member of glocals banned and many people angry, upset, and/or offended. Glocals is a great idea, I haven't found something like this in my country (and I really have my doubts it could work there...), and for me the most important points for that are: 1) it is activity-centered, instead of "personally"-focused. 2) It is really friendly! And the point #2 is a consequence of the care of admins, and also from the point #1.

I know that activity organizers do a great effort in their activities, and it must be rewarded, but I find that the best reward for an organizer is the fun of organizing and see people happy with the activity. Other kind of reward, as "oscars", are just a little bit egocentric, and they finally take out the worst of ourselves.

Nevertheless, I really hope that Esperanza comes back. Errors and "a bad day at the office" shall be always forgivable.

Best,

Pedro José.

Hi Fabrizio

Good post by you but I guess part of the reason why this weird thing happened is that both of them are young 24-25 I guess. At that age, its all about who is the better salsa dancer and that is why they were probably at each other. That would explain half of it (not all)  and that is why some senior people like you have to step in.

Tina - this whole thing started because people posted innapropriate stuff on the forums without taking a moment to think first.

To the best of my knowledge, neither Ehsaan nor Esperanza are 24-25, so pls don't 'add fuel to the fire' with un-sustantiated explanations about why this happened.

ok i think its time to defend Eshaan a little here.

Firstly  I think , and this is only my opinion, that the Oscars were only simply meant as a bit of fun , to add to the evening entertainment, and i dont think this aspect should be blown out of proportion. Ive been to several of his events , and always enjoyed them . So no matter what his reasoning is , you cant take away the fact, hes a good organisor for glocals groups. Esperanza at the same time also organises great events, and without either of them then there wouldnt be as many events to attend.

I didnt agree with the Oscar thing , and refrained from voting, despite the fact ive attended everyone of the scotsmans events, several of Esperanza;s and Eshaans events as well. We can all choose to vote  or not , to participate or not , thes the beauty of a free society. Whatever grievances people have with each other, they should be discussed privately and not in an open forum. That way issues can be resolved without other peoples opinions clouding the matter. Id be happy to see future events posted by eshaan and esperanza, and would be happy to attend them as well.

I agree that esperanza was out of order with her mail, and that something should be done about it . An apology to Eshaan would be enough in my opinion. After all we can all loose the plot sometimes, and get carried away. Until we know or it is decided to explain all the facts to us , then we should keep an open mind, and not be so judgemental of each other. Esperanza is getting the flak because she chose to make her opinion public. Eshaan has remained strangly quiet on the subject, no doubt his ego has been wounded too. Maybe its time just to let sleeping dogs lie, restore esperanza back to the forum, with an apology to Eshaan. A public apology i feel is not warranted in this situation, because no one except Eshaan has been offended by what happed.

Dear Oded, dear posters on the glocals ZH - Oscar awards 2010 forum thread

I'd like to thank you all very much for all your feedback about the issues I raised with my post.

A special appreciation goes to Oded, for his managing of this story, for the clear answers he gave to my issues and for the daily work he is doing in running the web site and in giving to the community the possibility to exists; to him also goes my apology for having probably "streched to the limit" the rules of conduct of the web site, posting an off-topic activity and group. For this I consider myself warned and I will refrain from doing that in the future. I also approve his deletion of the activity and of the group, despite what I wrote in the beginning in the comments (fully attached below).

On top of this, whatever conclusion will be reached, this will be my final contribution and I'll not post anymore about this.

I'd like to spend my last word for TheScotsman: I never ever wanted to put him in discussion; I'm quite regular at his Seefeld drinks, I really appreciate him and his work, I think he is a great host and organizer, and I'll express this appreciation again in person next time I'll meet him.

Cheers

Fabrizio

Nadejda is one of the very good animators of this community and I personnally thank her for the activies she has organised so far and which helped me having a foot in Zürich's life.

Cheers

Fabrizio

It's a shame, that things like this happen! We are here to meet friends, laugh, feel good, spend some time together and anything which helps us to feel better!

I really hope to see Esperanza back to glocals soon. We need someone like her!

That's what I think.

Cheers

Hi,

I have not been participating actively for so long so I hope I make no injustice to anyone, here my 5 top:

1. Ian, the Scotsman for organizing a regular that is one of my favorites and making me feel always welcome.

2. Esperanza_72, for being a walking culture guide and coming up with always interesting events.

3. Tounal, for organizing friendly activities during the day as well, thank you.

4. Michael F for his generosity in helping the expats to integrate.

5. Ehsaan for putting together huge events providing an excellent opportunity for socializing.

Thank you to all,

Montse.

Hi everybody Embarassed
I do not really understand what this is all about... and feel like arriving from a peaceful little "village" called Lausanne in the turmoil of a "big city"... I was looking forward to meeting Ehsaan and Esperanza_72 at the Halloween party as forseen in my emails exchange and hope to meet them both next time i will visit Zürich.
@Montse Q: Surprised very surprised to see my nickname in a list...as i do not remember having subscribed for any contest in Glocals, and would never like to...moreover i am registered in Lausanne, being more involved in its social community (though i am also living in Gva). Sorry if i brought some confusion in mentioning ZH in my profile as i am also visiting Zürich/Basel from time to time.
Ehsaan : Smile what a lovely Halloween party you gave ! I really had fun and enjoyed till 2am Tongue out ! I can imagine that it required a lot of energy to gather so many people. It was the 1st time that i participated to a Zürich event and to tell you the truth, i have not celebrated Halloween for 25 years. It was my way to express the past in a funny way and to send all my thanks to an american friend of mine Cool
Oded and Nir : Innocent thanks to give us the opportunity to gather among Turks&Greeks, French&Germans, North&South Coreans, Japanese&Chinese, etc...this is really a "friendship sans frontières" network and IT WORKS Laughing... so i am sure that you will restore the friendship between the 2 above Wink

Re: glocals ZH - Oscar awards 2010
Post 37

I thought I would share a few thoughts of my own on this thread.

The Oscars Idea!

I do not think anyone seriously thought that this was anything more than a bit of fun!

 The Polling Process

There are several ways the polling process could have been carried out but I am sure you all know that all methods have different degrees of accuracy and are subject to challenge by disaffected parties.

In the event the current debate is not really about the polling process but more an accusation that whatever the outcome and however this was derived the results were ‘adjusted’ by Ehsaan to support a personal vendetta. For the record I do not believe that it is in Ehsaan’s nature to act in this way especially as this was just a bit of fun.

The Oscars Candidates

Every person on the list would have been a worthy candidate for winning this event.

I was away on business last week and was unable to attend on Friday so the first I knew of the result was on Saturday when I got Esperanza’s email. I immediately assumed that with Esperanza coming second that John Wubb had come first and I was pleased as I think John is a great guy and does so much! However, I would have been just as pleased for any of the organisers to get it, particularly for example any one of the newer people that are just starting organizing events e.g. ‘Rick the Swede’, Michael etc.

I like organizing Seefeld Drinks because it is really good fun and many amazing people come along on a regular basis! I am absolutely certain that the primary agenda of everyone involved in organizing events is for similar reasons. I certainly do not feel that people compete in any way or consider themselves to be better than anyone else. We all share the same goals in this respect and despite the ‘recent email’ I truly believe that Esperanza feels this way also.

Ehsaan

I think Ehsaan has very unfairly come under criticism from a number of sources. Ehsaan puts an incredible amount of energy and drive into the Glocals scene and does a truly amazing job to a very high standard! I think everyone would lose out if he suddenly decided to do other things because his efforts were not appreciated and this all became too much of a hassle.

On a personal level I also think Ehsann has extremely high personal integrity and I find it very admirable that as an individual he passionately supports charities in India with such dedication. It says a lot about an individual when they ‘give’ without any expectation of return.

Esperanza

I believe that anyone like me who knows Esperanza also considers her a really good and genuine person and that this current event is just one of these ‘crazy situations’ that have gone out of control.

I think she lost her temper and sent something out that she later regretted. I do not even think that the root cause of the email has anything to do with the event. However I think we can all recognize that it is easy to ‘fly off the handle’ in this way and we are all subject to the same kind of thing.

The Solution!

I do not think we should dwell on the above any longer and I think it is time to move on quickly to a ‘positive fix’!

I would suggest that Esperanza meets with Ehsaan for a coffee or something similar to draw a line under anything that might have happened in the past. It takes real strength of character to do something like this but I am sure you will all agree that both of them have this in them.

She can then follow up with Oded who I am sure will immediately re-instate her. I do not think any further action is required apart from perhaps also taking away this thread.

I think everyone in Glocals wants something like the above as an outcome so that we can get on with building connections with decent people in a positive supportive environment!

Take care for now…………….

Dear Oded, dear Eshaan, dear posters on the glocals ZH - Oscar awards 2010 forum thread, dear glocals members

what I wrote on that Saturday , was rude and inappropriate, and the blocking of my account was deserved.

I wrote without thinking enough about the possible consequences of what I was doing and, after some days of deep thoughts and discussions with some friends I feel now the need to apologize to Eshaan and to all of you for the things I wrote and the accusations I made, which were the result of a misunderstanding.

I'd also like to apologize for my misuse of the service the website provides.

Oded, I confirm my trust in you as administrator of the web site, I hope you would accept my request for restoring my account, with my formal promise of not repeating anymore the above violation, and to respect the terms of use, especially about the disclosing of anybody's personal detail.

If you will accept to restore my account I will post this email in the "glocals ZH - Oscar awards 2010" forum thread as my first act after the restoring and this will be my last word about this story; I will refrain in any case to comment in the future about this, and I'll restart using the website only for the purpose it is designed for: promoting friendship, happiness and fun between the community members through organizing, promoting and attending activities.

Thanks very much to everybody.

Re: glocals ZH - Oscar awards 2010
Post 45

Well, I've witnessed similar situations, where the actual subject of the disagreement is usually irrelevant (or so small that it's laughable from outside view). In the end, it's only a catalyst that brings all the little frustrations and disagreements of the past to light and lets them culminate in one big f*cking venting.

People should learn to think what they post - especially in a forum that is indexed by Google and where the participants actually know and see each other in RL! It's one thing to sort of crash into a forum of (say) hamster-breeders, call them retards and never post and visit again - but on a forum like this, that is basically an extension of RL, a posting like the one that is the subject of this discussion... well, nothing good will come of it.

This is Switzerland. It's like a village, where people basically take notice on how often you have to wash your bed-linens...

The guy you know from a few drinks and who you gave a slap on the face in front of everybody because you thought he said or did something inappropriate (and you had a bad day anyway) may just be somebody you have to work together with in a new project next month.

And the girl you tried to hit on for weeks until she had to threaten you with a restraining order - guess what, she changed jobs and now works in HR in your company.

Going to work will be so much more "interesting" then.

So, I'd say the suspension was not too bad a thing. It allows for some cool-down time.

Of course, some people take such a suspension as an opportunity to go totally postal (which would be an indication that the original suspension was a good idea in the first place).

But in this case, reason kicked in and all (well, most) seems to be sorted out.

Venting is very healthy. But there are some postings that you should just sleep over a night, read them again - and then you will probably realize that they don't really add any value to a discussion. But in writing down the stuff, it helped you a lot to get your anger of your brain.

So, the advice is: vent often, post seldom ;-)

Post 46

so...its time to break the silence...
enough said and done!

Thank you all who wrote me private messages...I appreciate your support...

So here it is one by one

@FABRIZIO:

I agree with you that the poll could have been done in a better way...Certainly...

But we all learn from doing thing and this is the first time I was running a poll like this in Zurich. Next time we will certainly do it in a better way…

As far as the private messages on glocals regarding the Oscars were concerned, some people preferred to write an email rather than writing on the forums since (according to them) they would hurt feelings of some people by not voting for them.

People voted in private for all the 3 candidates!

But this is already the past…

Now talking about the “issue”: WHO IS EHSAAN (for glocals of course)???

I guess siteadmin already replied to this question, but I will add something more.

I am the one who BUILT UP THE GLOCALS COMMUNITY in Zurich. I am the REPRESENTATIVE for glocals in Zurich. I organize all the official glocals events in Zurich.

Why are my posts highlighted? Actually these are GLOCALS posts.

Why did you see a banner advertising 1600 posts? My friend, you need to read things. This banner was for the party in Geneva.

People like you and others who are on this community site joined when I had already put in enough time, efforts and energy to bring about 4000 members or more together on this site. You already had about 4000 people (now almost 6000) based on which you could organize activities and a lot of people also attended.

I joined glocals in Zurich with only 40 members on board. I organized activities after activities.. sometimes NOBODY attended sometimes a couple of people attended. This is not the case today since we already have nearly 6000 members.

And if I gathered the biggest bunch of friends, it’s only because these people wanted to be...Friends are not made by organizing events, but by the way how you treat them!

A lot of people are on this site because I introduced them to glocals!

As for the awards are concerned, this was an appreciation for the people...It was NOT a question of life and death...It was for FUN and NOT competition…

Remember, we are on this site to make friends and have fun…

NOT to make enemies and have competition!!!

********************

@ESPERANZA_72

What you did was something completely unacceptable and unforgivable. However, my education, principles and values have always taught me to forgive.

APOLOGIES ACCEPTED!!!

However I would like to make one thing VERY CLEAR..to Esperanza_72 and to all other glocalers!

So far this site has been free of all gossips and WE would like to keep it that way so something had to be written…

People who know me on glocals and off glocals too, know who I am and what I am.

If nothing was written on the forums so far, is only because I refrained them from doing so…

Just because you accused me of something and then apologize does not mean, IT IS TRUE!!!

Just because I was/am friendly and welcoming people (including men/women) does not mean I want to date all of them!!

I never ever tired dating YOU, NOR any other women on glocals.

If my friendliness and welcoming nature means hitting on somebody then, there is certainly some kind of a gap or could be something else...not sure what that is…

My culture, education and values teach me to respect women and not accuse her on a forum or say something behind her back and thats the reason I was quiet so far, but certain things needed to be clarified...

As far as frustration is concerned, everybody knows who was frustrated and to what level. I don't have to say much about that..

I am here to make friends, have fun, live life and enjoy!!

NOT to make enemies, accuse people or have competition!!!

TO THE ACTIVITY ORGANIZERS:

As event organizers, WE should be tolerant and flexible. If people RSVPed and could not attend last minute there could be a very good reason.

Especially, if a person informs you in advance saying, I am stuck at work or I am sick or even worse: My baby sitter did not show up and I cannot leave my child alone and attend a dinner or a hike!!!

I think as event organizers, we should understand one thing very clearly:

We organize something for fun.. Its NOT a job!!

And if people cannot attend last minute because of some reasons, we should just accept it. We don’t have to be rude to these people or kick them out from our future events!

We are all human beings and certain things in life are NOT predictable.

Can you imagine a scenario where you organize an event and you got sick or hospitalized or got stuck in some circumstances where you could not attend your own event???

Should the people boycott your future events then???

Its very simple: GLOCALS IS FOR FRIENDLY PEOPLE!

There are several other expats websites in Zurich and what from what I have learnt people from other expats websites have attended GLOCALS events and never went back to where they came from!

Reason is very simple: GLOCALS IS A FRIENDLY PLATFORM!

I have also noticed that some people who were on other sites are now ACTIVE forum posters and activity organizers on glocals! This says a LOT!

Enough said...

I wish you all a great Sunday and see you at the Glamour party!!

wow, just saw this thread and I am amazed at whats been written here.  I have known Ehsaan for 4 years and I can't tell you how much I admire this guy.

I first met him when he held a bollywood party here in Geneva and then I met him a few times on my work trips to Zurich.  Attended many of his mid-week drinks and other parties.  Met some nice people at his parties.  He offered me a place to stay in his apartment and was genuinely nice and caring.

I admire the hard work he has done for the glocals community.  From when the community in Zurich used to be around 20 or so people to now where it is around 6000 people.  I can not doubt his intentions, his sincerity and/or his integrity.  I have not attended anyone else' events in Zurich so can't really say anything about them.  But, one thing is for sure, Ehsaan is a genuinely nice guy who cares for everyone who crosses paths with him.  My oscar goes for Ehsaan.  Keep up the work Ehsaan .. u deserve all the accolades ...

Eshaan, you really should have refrained and kept quiet on this subject... this post is not doing you any favours at all. Nothing is unforgiveable.. and lets face it a lot gets lost in translation. Personally , i think this thread should now be closed, to avoid any further disruption of the site, and more unwanted comments being made.

I don't think this post should be closed. It is - for good or for bad - now part of Zürich Glocals community history. And we cannot erase history :-)

I think everybody got some lessons learnt here... what I learned is that being a bit more humble would not hurt anybody...

Hi Juliana,

I agree completely -- don't try to clean up your history and don't try to keep the skeletons in the closet. It only breeds more fear, uncertainly, and doubt.

I work with open source software and I'm used to extreme openness. That is why I feel that it would have been best to not delete anything: let people read what was written and draw their own conclussions.

History is just that HIstory... leave it behind, and forget it . All it does is keep open old wounds, form predudices and stops us from healing, and moving on. Those involved have learnt there lessons , and its now time to move on, There is nothing gained from remembering past fights and arguements. They happened and they are over. Time to forgive and forget, and move on. That is my opinion, and why i think the thread should be closed.
