operating system breakdown while repairing?? Help??

Problem:

I tried to repair my windows xp  on my laptop  with: Change to cd drive and the folder i386

command:Winnt32 / unattend

The repair started and after a while the screen went black. The led lights of the hard drive still blinked. But the screen stayed black very long over an hour. I powered off the computer. Then powered on again. The computer booted and there was a menu to choose windows set up or windows normal  But it automatically choosed set up. There was to choose F3 to escape or press enter to continue the upgrade. I choose many times f3 but computer  did nothing  then i chossed enter.

1  First the set up continued. Then suddenly the computer powered off itself. I tried the same again, but it continued to power off itself

2.Then i tried to choose windows normal when the computer rebooted again. The windows logo and blue bar  appears . But the screen turns into black. At the same time there is to hear the fanfare music of  windows start up. But the screen stays black.

Solution attempts today:

Build up a LAN network with Router and additional functioning computer. Unfortunately my remote desk top function was disabled few days ago.  On the router interface (Internet explorer) I read out the ip adress of my computer. I tried to enable my remote desk top function remotely through registry. (open regedit/file menu connect network registry/ entered my ip adress )
Probably it failed because of firwall on my computer.

I tried to map a new network drive on the functioning computer in my

Lan  system. In order to get acess to my hard drive through the Lan.

The Lan system seemed to work because i could see for example the Ip adresses on the router inface.
I did the command
Net use
P: \192.168.0.101c$  (my ip adress in LAN)

Unfortunately it failed

System error 58 has occured

The specified server cannot perform the requested operation.

No idea why it failed?

Further  ideas:

Physically remove the hard drive from my laptop  - to save all my files ??? But it would still hope to find another soultion to save my computer...

Knoppix system  (free download)To download this Linux based diagnostic tool  on a cd. Then boot from the cd on my computer to get acess to my hard drive and try to store the hard drive on an external  USB hard drive

My problem is could it be dangerous on my damaged computer to try this??? Or is it for sure that the Linux CD with knoppix system could be used for saving my hard drive?

I would be really glad if anyone knows something more about such problems and has any idea??

(All my files and hard drive are very important to me and not backed up)

Many thanks

Mojita

Hello Mojita,

Haven't read everything, but yes you can use knoppix (or ubuntu, I might have a cd somewhere) to backup your data.

If you are not sure about what to do and need help, tell me, it's not really hard ;)

Good luck and don't panick !

Thanks Yoann,

sure i panic and am very desperated :-(

I tried Knoppix. But when copying the files of harddrive to an externalUSB hard drive  - after a while my computer has an power off breakdown (it happens continuesly after about (20.000 files/ 3 GB).

I can only continue if i connect the external harddrive first to another computer,do there error checking and there are deleted someerror files...

So far i could only save few files on the external hard drive.  :-(

Maybe it looks like a hardware problem?? Or are there some error files causing even while using in the knoppix linux a power breakdown ?

Many thanks

Mojita

Hello Mojita,

Yes, your computer may have some hardware problems...

For the external hard drive, if you must plug it to an other computer, it's very probably cuz it's formatted in NTFS (this format lock the drive if not exited correctly, on linux you must use a special command to unlock). Try to format it in FAT32 (or even better in EXT3/4 but then you need a driver on windows) could probably solve this issue.

An other solutin could be to open your broken computer, take the hard drive, and plug it on an other computer.

Good luck and don't worry :)

i just plugged the external hard drive to another computer because it couldnt continiue the download on mine because of error files - did error check with the external hard drive on a windows computer then plugged in back to mine and continued the copying of my stuff.

I dont understand the formatting in FAT 32??

I saved some files on the external, but when i want to see and open them at another windows computer i cant see them. Does this also has to do with the format??

I hate computer! I prefer buying shoes instead of solving such terrible problems  :-(((

 But many thanks  :-)
