Language exchange for people who want to learn and improve their French and English on a weekday evening.

While it is, of course, nice to socialize and meet people, the main purpose of this group is to try to improve our language skills.

Here is the meeting format:

We meet at Vivendo at 7:00 pm on Wednesdays. Meet, greet, chat, order drinks, and try to split up into small groups. 3 – 4 people seems to be a good size for a talking group, and native/fluent speakers should try to spread out so that there is one native French and one native English speaker in each group (as best as possible).

After your group is set (~7:15 pm), we will try talk for ~1 hour and split the time in half between French and English. Your choice which to start with, but after 30 minutes switch to the other language. With this schedule, we should finish around 8:15 pm. If you want to keep going, order food, drinks whatever, that's up to you.

Here are some suggestions:

-Bring a notebook. You will probably learn something and want to write it down.

-While small talk and chit-chat are certainly useful and pleasant, we want to try to push our linguistic abilities, so try to pick topics to discuss that will stimulate conversation. Maybe bring a newspaper or a magazine and talk about the articles. We will also be building a collection of talking topics to go in a pot that can be drawn out as needed. If you have any ideas for topics, feel free to write them down or print them out so that they can be added to the collection. No idea is a bad idea since you never known what you may end up talking about in life. The more ridiculous, the better :-)   - Less
