A.Gaskon “Map.struction / The Tetris Effect”
The vernissage will take place on Thursday, November 1st, and we will be welcoming you between 6.30 and 9pm at Espace GAIA. The show will then run until December 15th.
Geneva, November 1 – December 15, 2012 … Espace Gaia Gallery Geneva is pleased to present “Map.struction:The Tetris Effect”, an exhibition of the dynamic series of paintings and works on paper by Swiss- based artist, Alice Gaskon. This is the first Geneva solo show for this emerging and already internationally admired artist whose practice encompasses painting, drawing, installation and video.
Map.struction/The Tetris Effect is an ensemble comprising of paintings and drawings that take their inspiration from maps and aerial satellite pictures of cities and urban territories. A closer look at these paintings reveals that the maps are deformed in all sorts of ways, driven by repetition of forms, lines and accumulation of shapes. Although Gaskon's works are rooted in concrete depictions of cities and their cartographic visual representations, they are often far more abstract and highly colourful. Works are marked by a coexistence of both fantasy views of game-like platforms and neatly structured reality.
