Synposis:
The West has positioned itself as the protagonist of development, giving rise to a vast multi-billion dollar poverty industry — the business of doing good has never been better. Yet the results have been mixed, in some cases even catastrophic, and leaders in the developing world are growing increasingly vocal in calling for change. Drawing from over 200 interviews filmed in 20 countries, Poverty, Inc. unearths an uncomfortable side of charity we can no longer ignore. From TOMs Shoes to international adoptions, from solar panels to U.S. agricultural subsidies, the film challenges each of us to ask the tough question: Could I be part of the problem?

WHAT IS SHYFT?

Coming to a shyft screening does not mean you sit around and watch a film together but it is a unique opportunity to meet like-minded and like-hearted people in your own communities. Best part of the every shyft screening that we introduce one or several local initiatives/ start-ups/ organisations - working or doing something similar to what the documentary/ film speaks about. Thus giving YOU, the audience an opportunity to not just be passive listeners but active participants of the process of change and channel your inspirations at the end of the film into these initiatives with whatever you can offer at the moment.

shyft is a communal social enterprise where we support indie and small budget filmmakers for the inspirational meaningful movies they make and empower them further to make more such along the way for more of us to watch, learn and take conscious action. Therefore all funds collected here as a small ticket price go into purchasing Public Performance Screening rights from the filmmakers. We of course welcome you to give whatever you can so we can sustain shyft further.
