Shyft Geneva in collaboration with Impact Hub Geneva cordially invites you to the screening a multi-award winning documentary: Out of the darkness by Stefano Levi.
The screening is followed by presentations from organisations working in the field and panel discussion.

Synposis of the film:

More than half of the worlds preventable blindness is caused by cataract disease, a clouding of the clear lens of the eye. In developing countries like Nepal, it is not only a personal tragedy, but can devastate the economy of entire communities. Fortunately, it is also easy to cure. Cataract surgery is one of the most effective medical interventions on earth, but until recently was considered too expensive to provide to the rural poor. Most of the worlds blind people live in remote, impoverished areas. The majority of doctors able to cure them work in cities. Dr. Sanduk Ruit from Nepal, and his American partner, Dr. Geoff Tabin, have made perfecting a portable low cost surgical procedure to restore sight their lifes work. They trek to Nepals remote Northeast, carrying an entire hospital on porters backs. Their mission is to bring the needlessly blind out of the darkness.

WHAT IS SHYFT?
Coming to a shyft screening does not mean you sit around and watch a film together but it is a unique opportunity to meet like-minded and like-hearted people in your own communities. Best part of the every shyft screening that we introduce one or several local initiatives/ start-ups/ organisations - working or doing something similar to what the documentary/ film speaks about. Thus giving YOU, the audience an opportunity to not just be passive listeners but active participants of the process of change and channel your inspirations at the end of the film into these initiatives with whatever you can offer at the moment.

shyft is a communal social enterprise where we support indie and small budget filmmakers for the inspirational meaningful movies they make and empower them further to make more such along the way for more of us to watch, learn and take conscious action. Therefore all funds collected here as a small ticket price go into purchasing Public Performance Screening rights from the filmmakers. We of course welcome you to give whatever you can so we can sustain shyft further.
