Many professionals choose to take extended periods of absence from work. This may be to look after young children, to care for relatives, or as a result of a partner’s career move. Often, this means that they resign from their jobs and must reapply for a new position in a different company when their period of absence ends.

When they re-enter the job market they find that a break in employment is a disadvantage in the competition for positions. They have lost contact with other professionals in their field, their skills need updating, and their confidence is reduced. They may also have ongoing out-of-work commitments that make their working patterns irregular or limited. They find it very difficult to get back into work as a result.

The ‘career reboot’ event presents solutions to these problems through presentations and networking opportunities. The event has a special focus on engineering and technical professions but is open to all.
