Rome lodging recs?
Hi everyone --finally making it to Rome for my first trip! Am seeking suggestions for a safe and quiet hotel/lodging place over a 4 day weekend in June (centrally located ideally for the first time visitor and avid walker -as well as solo traveller)...the Travesdere area comes highly recommended but would be interested to hear suggestions. Oh, and favorite cafes are highly welcomed too. Thanks as always, C.

Hi,
here are some tips for your trip to Rome:
To stay overnight, I know a little place called 'La Locanda', is really centrally located and it is a cozy wine bar that also has rooms to rent.

Regarding nice cafes, first rule is avoid places where you see too many tourists ;-)
Trastevere is great for bars, restaurants and Pizzerie; close to Piazza Trilussa is full of places where to stop.
Piazza Campo dei Fiori for the apero is a must.

The most beautiful museum for me is Galleria Borghese, highly recommended for its sculptures!

If you want more info, just drop me a line.
Ciao!

about the place to stay: avoid as much as possible all the hotels and hostels near "Termini", "Castro Pretorio" or "Vittorio Emanuele" metro stations. A very nice place is the Jocanda b&b (www.jocanda.it). If you prefer something more "backpacker style" ther is also the Youth Station Hostel (www.youthstation.it). Both these places are near the university - nice place, very safe and full of life. I like very much cafes and bars in Monti (around metro "Cavour") and San Lorenzo.

ciao
