The English-French exchange of language

The English-French exchange of language Picture

Cafe des Savoises, rue de Savoises, 15 (Plainpalais area), Geneva

The idea of the French/English Language Exchange is for French and English speakers to help each other in learning the language of the other.

This activity is related to a group. It is good to join in as we communicate some information sometimes. Thank you for considering our principles, even if we are cool, it is good to have some principles, isn't it ? ;-)

Group: http://www.glocals.com/groups/geneva-french-english-language-exchange-group.htm

We meet up each Saturday afternoon between 16h20 and 16h30 at the café des Savoises, rue des Savoises, 11 :

Main stop in the area : Cirque

Each person chooses her/his group/partners to talk with. It is a give and take situation. Usually, during our sharing, we alternate French and English every 20/30 mn. Please, try to find best practices of how to correct each other mistakes. Cooperation is a creative process.

Small groups work better, 2 choices are available:
1° Group of 3, where we try to always have an English and a French mother tongue. The third person, whatever her/his mother tongue language is very welcome.
2° informal and open/group where you can converse/listen/learn and socialize as it comes.

Do try to come on time and if ever you come late, try to initiate a new group : just present yourself to a bigger group of your choice, announce what is your native language and ask if anyone is willing to start a new small group (even a pair).
- Or join a current group of two people.
- Or get in a current informal/open group.

It is good also to match your levels with your partners. You can check your it here :

Perhaps better, for the anglophones, is the site of DELF/DALF:

Regarding levels, look at these tips :

If you are an A level then bring a novel for children, comics or exercise books related to your level, it will help you and your partner to enrich your exchange.

If you are a B level, conversation is generally enough, although a book or newspaper will help to inspire your conversation and to discover new vocabulary.

If you are C level, you know enough to decide precisely what your needs are.

If you have some exams to prepare or need good English/French for your job, we suggest that you work in pairs (when possible) and have some materials/books with you. Do focus on some well defined points (like pronunciation) for some brief moments.

As the room is provided free of charge, please take full advantage of the bar, drinks are inexpensive and the management is involved in a fair trade process.

Please sign up when and if you are planning to attend.
