Reviews are *not* discussion....

Tonight, one of the latest business reviews was for sajna restaurant. I clicked on the link and see 4 reviews

1. (3 stars) someone asking for the Curry Club to be invited (and also a comment about their website)

2. (5 stars) a response by the owner to the post (though it sounds more like marketing than an actual response)

3. (1 star) "I haven't tried the food, so I can't say...."

4. (5 stars) a response to #3 by another person associated with the restaurant.

This is ludicrous! Four so-called reviews, but no one's actually been there! And, I'm sorry, but if you write a review and give it one star, you had better damn well have a reason for it. Same for 5-stars. #1 at least gave a neutral 3 stars, but it gives the wrong signal.

If we want to discuss such things, the start a thread and be sure to send a link to the necessary people. But, some things, I think, should be discussed or worked out not in a public forum....

to that end, go see my forum posting about this restaurant, because I do have some things to discuss.....

Nir,

I believe such ambiguity in user-understanding concerns Glocals more than the restaurant or the users in question.

1) Perhaps there needs to be a mechanism of resolving issues before the reviews are posted permanently. Like a seven-day period in which the user can take his/her words back if the service provider manages to somehow go out of his/her way to ensure customer satisfaction or even better, customer delight.

2) This also brings us back to another point, that not everything on the site is seamlessly integrated to everything else. Forums seem completely disconnected from Guides.

3) I've also seen at least one profile which has posted a review for a service provider that screams FAKE! I must admit, I have no idea how fake profiles are being dealt with 'proactively' by site admins, but to only depend on user reviews/reactions can be pretty dangerous for a network of over 10K people. A few functionalities on Glocals can go a long way to help businesses manage their online reputation.

4) Finally, there has to be a short FAQ & a comprehensive site user manual. Any tips & tricks, points to keep in mind, must be documented and the locations made known to every new user. There is no way that users who join three months down the line are going to come back and dig for answers in forums. They'd start a new discussion and voila, reinvent the wheel.

Cheers,

Arun

I think you are on the right track Arun KV.  And I don't see why owners get to give themselves reviews and stars.

just to clarify, because there seems to be some confusion and misinterpretation....

my post above makes NO comment about the restaurant or about glocals. I've made plenty of comments about glocals.com before - both positive and negative - and I'm sure I'll continue, but this is not one of them.

I was simply saying that reviews should be just that: reviews of a restaurant (or whatever) with which the reviewer has a personal experience to share.
