Have I managed to miss something?
Just tried "members", but no sign of Hayes.
Has he left?
Thanks for replying.

This a long story. But if you go to forum Crime in Geneva initiated by Joe Buck you will se that Hayes admitted to a multiple personality. He was blacklisted by admin He was Joe Buck and several other people. It appears also that he might have left Geneva. If you cannot find the forum, revert and I will give the correct title

Wow, that’s news…
“Good old” Hayes was one of the serious forum posters, (back in 2008) His posts were always entertaining…goes to prove, “the cool one’s” leave & the rest stays… Hayes, I miss you!

Hayes is a good guy. I suspect he is watching us from somewhere
I am not sure if his tease warranted being banned without explanation. I bet there are other people with multiple profiles for whatever reason.

Yes, Hayes, if you leave town without a drink with the members of your fan club, we'll all be crushed! We promise to show up wearing name tags of all your trolls...
And I expect that any time now, you will create a troll to explode this thread.... at least I hope so...

It's like the climax of a bad soap opera - the advocatus diaboli (or assholi...) character rips off his mask and, ooooohhhhh! he's actually the villain, but then the villain rips of the mask and he's actually the smooth charmer, and so on. And you know, I think that's how Hayes intended to end his time here. Is it a comment on our time where the generation of artificial identity mirrors the loss of a sense of self? A critique of the crisis of the expat community where cultural relativity threaten to overwhelm our most basic moral imperatives? Or simply a gesture, an indication towards the conundrums & paradoxes that in fact bring us together? I guess we'll never know. So long Hayes!

Food for thought; Hayes get's kicked out for having too many "personalities".

At least he managed to bring a smail to many of us, sometimes we even cried tears of laughter, hilarious moments...
THANK YOU, thank you for being part of our lives! You rock, Hayes.
...what about the members which have NOT been online for 2 years or so?...why are they still here?
Maybe we should open a fanclub for Hayes?

haha, i`m in for all the suggestins above. Forums before were nice because of the wittiness and amazing sense of humor of posters, and Hayes were first of the list. Nowadays, unfortunately, even serious forums go downhill because of senseless and stupid jokes, all with double/sexual meaning. I miss old times ;)

He was hilarious and super witty, and super intelligent. But in my view, he was also a scary wacko.
We think we identified around 5000 (!) posts he put up as 27 different people (!), usually answering himself 3-4 times on each thread. The time and effort this must have taken him...Honestly, I find that a bit scary in a guy.
The Hayes story is another example of the downside of having an "open for all" site, where all you need in order to open an account is an email address.
Oded and I often toy with the idea of putting up certain barriers to make it harder to fake profiles to come in, like having to activate new accounts by SMS, or only being able to open an account if you're invited by an older members, etc. None of it is 100% full-proof, but it's a step in the "only real people" direction. So far, we killed all those ideas. But any thoughts welcome.

Wanessa,
I agree. Recently, there's 3-4 guys (the same ones) who feel they need to comment on nearly every thread with their brand of wit. Their wit is indeed mostly sex based, and I wish it had half the wit of Hayes.
We've dropped a few hints to some of them recently, and if it doesn't stop, we'll take more direct action.
But that still won't solve the issue of bringing in someone with real wit. Marina is not bad (on some days), and I think with some training she could do well.

Nir, keeping an eye on IP addresses might help, though it's not perfect since two different people behind the same firewall will typically have the same Internet IP address. You still might be able to spot the worst abusers.

Richard,
Thanks. We've tried that, but the "same IP address" issue (which you called out) turned out to be big. Many members login from work, and their whole office has the same IP. So in a typical day we see 300 members with the same IP: the P&G offices...(-:

@Swiss - he is not dead ... he's just left the (virtual) building ... or maybe watching with a different profile.
@Nir - I am totally offended by you remark abot Marina!
If Hayes was the king ... Marina is without a shadow of a doubt, the Queen of Glocals forums. While Hayes's style was deeply analytical and yes Wanessa, extrenmely witty too, Marina's is more dealy with just a few words. Sir, I put it to you, the queen needs no training. Choose your weapon ... we meet at dawn. And your kickboxing won't help you either
Nir, let me ask you a rhetorical question. What is wrong with someone expressing himself from different angles and yes with multiple personalities! OK, so he added a lot more content to glocals (than a sane person would) which is great for the search engines - he did us all a favour by doing more than is fair share of upping Glocals in the search engine rankings. That deserves a medal no?!
And he created controversy by creating multiple answers to his own posts. Were the answers offensive? Didn't they help fuel discussion?
Did deleting those personalities make a big difference? Many of us know - and I am sure hayes does too - there so many ways to come back and remain undetected.
But I'd certainly appreciate the one true Hayes personality being allowed/restored ... he can get back anyway .. but I prefer to talk to "Hayes".
BTW, I have his phone number & email but I did/do appreciate talking to him here on my favourtie site. I particularly enjoyed reading him contribute to other people's posts (as opposed to just chatting with me directly, which I can continue by email & phone).
Now if I could write like Marina, I'd squeeze all the above in just about 2 lines. But wait is that really Marina? ... Come'on Hayes, is that YOUUUUU?!!

To you, Swiss and all other members of Hayes funclub: YOU guys are missing the point here.
The problem was not so much that the guy had created multiple accounts. The problem was that all those accounts have been all banned by the admins one by one because he was using them to provoke and directly insult people for no reason, including me, and that was even before admitting it had been him all along.
As Nir points out, it is rather disturbing to discover that someone would put so much effort into creating multiple accounts on a website and writing literally thousands of posts from those accounts basically asking a question and answering himself from another account and so on, and topping all that with random insults thrown at people.
I could not possibly have any appreciation for a someone who doesn't have the balls to stand up for himself and needs to hind behind fake IDs.

Im one account with multiple personalities in each sentence I write....
Hayes ( I admit) amused me on several occasions, but when he over stepped the boundary to abusing people (from behind the safety curtain of the internet) then it no longer became amusing but rather worrying. Humour and intelligence both can manifest themselves in many ways, often together, but there is no humour in hidden abuse....
...now Catalin...face to face abuse I am a huge advocat of ... whens our next beer ?

I have to say I am sceptical about the 27 account claim & would be interested to know the basis of this? Hayes claimed to be several Glocalites but I wouldn't be suprised if that was also part bluff.

Wise words, Charlie!
After all the whole point of glocals is meeting in real life among friendly people.
Juggling among 27 (or even two) fake profiles Hayes had missed the main point.
Being abusive to other members behind fake profiles, he missed the basys and spread bad feelings that turnished the pleasure of his sharp humour.
Somebody wrote him to get a life. I'd advise him to grow up, so that we (and he) might welcome back his wit without having to stand his shit.

Some of us learned long ago that Glocals is not the website in Switzerland for any discussions that go beyond the superficial.
In my experience, especially since the "thank poster" system has been established, many people get thanked for generally silly, bullshit remarks.
I've read posts where people defend discrimination in housing and others who tell us foreigners not to dare to criticize Switzerland. Not to mention a recent thread where many people talked about "dodgy gypsy types" who pickpocket around town. Did those people get banned? Did most of them apologize? No. Hayes did, at least.
Rule number one around here often seems to be, please don't offend or upset people who throw parties.

Nir, still not clear how you managed to work out the 27 figure, if you're struggling to identify those posting on multiple accounts, "none of it is 100% full-proof", how can you now in restrospect be so sure? Re. Hayes' final post, it wouldn't be out of character for him to exaggerate his activity in order leave us in a blaze of controversy.

Rich, makes no difference if it's 25 or 37 or maybe even just 17. The guy was a wacko, a liar, and got off on insulting people. Good riddance, let's move on.

Well 27, and esp. considering the content of their posts, is 'wacko' territory but, say 5 over 3 years, not necessarily. So the difference is between you feeling you have the right to make public condemnations of character based on a hunch? a guess? because you're having a bad day?, and well not doing that.

Rich, it's not a hunch, but I don't want want to get all technical on how our system works here and how it tracks where posts come from.
Par contre, it's definitly possible that, as you suggest, Hayes also lied about how much he posted. He's your friend, so if you absolutly need the exact number of posts he did, put the question to him.
Yalla, let's move on.

I'm obviously not interested in the number of posts. What does bother me is when someone whow is usually & admirably a moderating and calming influence on these forums, starts making these kinds of comments, seemingly without any real foundation. Anyway, that's the issue, I will move along quietly. Unless, hang on, are you Hayes???

Thanks. You're right, my reaction here has been stronger than usual (and maybe than it needs to be).
The Hayes story left a bad taste for me not cos I care about him, but cos other members here trusted his posts, and spent a lot of energy answering him with serious content. It's been a total waste of time for these members, and it hurts the site's image.
But thanks for bringing me back down...(-:

I admit that I have been thanked mostly for the utter bollox I have written, but then thanking someone for making you smile is as important as thanking someone for telling you where you can find a good gyno, or retail outlet or resto....
Its all relative to the individual, and the serious threads mixed with the frivolous ones make this website .... and get it revisited daily.
There is room for humour, there is room for sexual inuendo, and there is room for serious threads and those informative ones... but there is NO room for abuse and rudeness.

And Nir... we luv ya babeeey... high handed, low handed, heavy handed and light handed it makes no difference, youre the man, and if anyone says differently,,, I'll point him out and YOU can kick his raggedy ass.
Peace out...ps Isnt Halloween soon??????

@Charlie: You are right that there is no room for abuse and rudeness. It's just that some people seem to be able to get away with it, at least in the past, that's what I've seen happen here. That's life.
Of course, there's nothing wrong with thanking someone for making you smile or laugh, but frankly, I don't think posts always have to race to the, er, bottom, of the lowest form of wit.
And now that I've informed you about the Irish Hand Dance video, you can provide your critique....

Lol! Nir, were you drunk when you wrote this?!
Anyway, can you please provide us with the full "fearful 27" list, so that we can all check that we're not on it (crossing my fingers I'm not...)?
Yes, I know that this thread is out of date and that we've all forgotten about Hayes and moved on, bla bla bla, but I only became aware of it yesterday when meeting up with one of Hayes's Glocals personas (I won't mention her name, since I fear that that may give you an allergic reaction).

Well i happen to agree with Nir. A guy who creates multiple personalities and argues with himself is not normal is it? Maybe funny for him. For me weird and a waste of time

Playwrites assume multiple personalities and play out scenarios. We don't always see it. Freinds behave oddly in multiple way and we get annoyed but get on with life. As Marina put it, we should all be wise the virtual world and make up our own minds and certainly NOT believe everything we read online (or offline).
On the night of the meteor shower I told friends (including hayes) the guy affraid of relocating to Geneva because of violence (Joe Buck ... which later it is alleged he turned out to be hayes) was 99.99% fake & 1% needed help. We choose to believe what we want and we should always exercise caution, on-glocals, off-glocals, in-print, in-person where ever.
With or without hayes Glocals (& other sites) is not short of scarey weired 'minds'. I agree with Marina ... hayes added more to glocals than he took from it (but yes he was not perfect and his mehtods are not my preference ... geniuses can have a seemingly mad side to their personality ... and I do class hayes as genius).

The Starman and his stellar family will be missed here...

Well, Nir? We're waiting... Here's your chance to get your evidence out in the open, why don't you take it? Or could it be that you are yourself one of the 27 Hayses (I have it from pretty reliable sources that Oded is - sorry to break this to you)?

Charlotta - I don't know if you're trying to be funny or you're serious, but I'm as real as can be.
Re your 'investigation' - Hayes admited to having multiple profiles and his account was blocked. It doesn't get much simpler than that.
Re Nir - it's the weekend and he's spending time with his family.

I'm sorry if I offended you, Oded. It's just that it's what someone said, so I assumed that it was true, and about as likely as someone sacrificing his career, family and social life in order to spend all his time discussing with himself on a local internet forum under 27 different identities.
Also sorry about being impatient with Nir - i didn't know he had a private life.

Couldn't refrain from commenting as wanted to express my support for Nir&Oded
« Hayes claimed to have been five different posters »
And it became as a big surprise that glocals is a community where a man/woman could be expected to stand behind his/her words.
"the "research" that led to the conclusion of 27 …"
Why was it even conducted? The fact that some people have too much spare time doesn't mean the admins and founders don't have enough work, couldn't serve the community in much better ways than to contribute to the games of some weirdos who think the world turns around them instead of its own axis.
« Hayes, I'm assuming you're serious". Well, as the saying goes, "Never assume stuff -- it makes an ass out of you and..." «
Wouldn't consider insulting one of the founders neither intelligent nor witty.. On top of all the effort and work they put to make this community running, they have to deal with this kind of crap. Some people actually appreciate their enormous effort to make this whole thing happening on a voluntary basis. I just don’t personnally get the need of some people to try to provoke them to the extreme.
Go to events, organize them, have fun. And try to find some other channels to get out your frustrations than glocals.

@ Hayes
Does it really matter just how many fake personalities and endless possibilities to persist on the site exist(ed)? 2, 5, or 20+... Is it not a reasonable assumption that individuals stick to one profile, like a protocol that shouldn't have to need spelling out like a rule on such a site as this?
As amusing at the time as your words were, now knowing the lack of authenticity and intentional deceipt of some of them the entertainment factor is now undermined.
It is not hard for people with a fraction of your intelligence and wit to make an ass out of someone, an entire community or targeted individuals within it, but why do it. Why channel any of your effort to insult the intelligence &/or waste time of... of any of its members?

All:
I locked this thread, as it's wasted enough time and created enough negative vibes. We moved on.
Charlota:
Hayes claimed several times that he's married to you and that you have a kid together. Maybe that wasn't true either, but let's assume it is. So if you want more details about how he spends his time online, just ask him over dinner tonight. But take the replies with a grain of salt.
