Archiving

Hello there!

Question, is there an archiving system for this GLOCALS.com?

I ask because while searching the site, different threads and forums, I notice there are many postings going back to 2010 and ealier, which are obsolete.

Thanks.

Hi Marcela and sorry for my delayed reply.

Right now there is no archiving system, except that older posts are displayed below newer posts.

Do you have any ideas on how we could / should archive older forum posts?

Thanks

Oded

Hi Oded,

Thank you very much for your reply.  Regarding your question whether I know how to archive, I have a good idea about the concept, but I will look into it and get back to you with an answer.

Meantime, can you tell me where is the physical database stored?  And, how many tables are there in the database?  Can you please confirm the following assumption I am making, I assume all the records of the database are stored together, I mean sequentially, since inception of glocals.com, up to today.

Thanks and happy to help.
Best,
Marcela

Hi Oded,

I am very sorry to take so long to reply, but I am a newby in Switzerland and I've had to deal with so many things like living arrangments and other basics to survive.

I have not forgotten about the archiving and I will give you a definite answer this week.  I think I know how to do it, but I want to be 100% sure,  I haven't done it in ages and I wouldn't want to waste your time by misinforming you.  So, I just emailed a friend to confirm that I got it right, otherwise, to correct what's wrong.

Thanks for your patience.

Hi Oded,
Again, sorry for taking so long about the archiving,

Do a backup or copy of the entire database.  Mainly, for security reasons (loss of data, etc. )
Separate the data by year.  I say by year because the database is not that big, so I see no point on separating it by month and year.
Then, and here I am assuming, create something like SUB-DATABASES for the different years being archived.  That is, all the data from January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2009 in one place.  Then, in the program add code which will link or point to the data for  2009  ------>   January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2009.
You do the same for every past year.

Hope this helps and sorry for taking so long.
Best regards.
