Getting To Wise Mind - March 22nd

Many thanks to everyone for sharing their enthusiasm and making this such a great kick-off meeting.

If Mindfulness is defined as the ability to focus completely whilst totally maintaining awareness, we saw that it can be very hard to do. But the practice tonight was a good practice, rich with tales and discussions of passion, dreams and acceptance.

We were simply in the moment (at times!) without cutting out everything around us - the warmth and good company, the convivial environment, the over-powering loud music, interesting exchanges, and ideas for future sessions.

For those that read out their texts, many thanks for posting them here.

I've uploaded a few photos from the evening. More will follow tomorrow.

Thanks again to all for participating. Please post your critical comments, what went well, what could be improved, so we can refine future events together.

The next event which will be announced shortly.

David

Dreams written by Sreyashi Ghosh.

Artwork by Sreyashi Gosh, painted in oil
and acrylic painting, inspired by her poem.

Dreams

Caught unawares, I drift ,

into a world of dreams,

This unknown fantasy.

I dare to dream!

Where my aspirations reign supreme.

I will hold on,

I know it’s not easy,

Like a caged wild animal,

Like an incarcerated soul,

Yet my thoughts are free.

I dream..........

I dream of change,

Of a better world,

Of love and peace,

Where there will be no breach,

Where happiness we will preach,

And songs of love teach.

When frozen in this eternal bliss.

All barrenness shall become fertile,

All diseases cured,

Fulfilment rest assured,

In this genesis of life.

Decay and pain shall meet its nemesis.

Where we will all flourish,

And love will pervade.

And success shall invade,

For love knows no boundaries,

Neither do dreams.

A conglomeration of ideals,

A giving heart nestled,

In a strong body,

And an intelligent mind,

To reason with.

From kingdom of cerebral moments,

To the world of ‘Utopia’,

This is my dream.

Bashir Sakhawarz's Reading.

WITH PASSION By Rumi

With
passion pray. With
passion work. With passion make love.
With passion eat and drink and dance and play.
Why look like a dead fish
in this ocean
of
God?

Dear David, Thank you for organizing the event last evening. I am glad I could read out my poem "Dreams" from my new book "My Soul on a Platter" and share my thoughts with the group. I am glad it was received well and the feedback and comments are useful. This is a great idea of meeting and interacting with people. Eventhough I felt 2 mins were really long for me to practise the "mindfulness" exercise, I was getting distracted with the music. Le coup de Giraffe as a venue was not ideal for the event, but I think it was more the reluctance of Sofka, the adamant owner not turning down the music. It was a great start and I look forward to the next event and another venue :) This is a great idea and thanks for the wonderful photographs you took. I feel enriched after the evening, having heard Barbara's piece on the parable of the horses, the "maybe yes and maybe no" was interesting. Bashir's choice of Rumi's poem "With Passion" was perfect for the evening and I kept thinking about it even after I went back home. Warmly,Sreyashi
